Invasion of Popillia japonica in Lombardy, Italy: Interactions with soil entomopathogenic nematodes and native grubs

چکیده
The recent invasion of the Japanese beetle Popillia japonica Newman (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in northern Italy offered opportunity to explore entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) associated with soil hay meadows. A total 61 sites were considered for nematode sampling, and from 17 them (27.9%) EPNs isolated further characterized molecular morphological techniques as well laboratory bioassays. Two main species, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar (Rhabditida: Heterorhabditidae) Steinernema carpocapsae Weiser Steinernematidae) recorded same frequency together a few other species Oscheius sp. Phasmarhabditis sp.). newly EPN populations their activity (penetration rate) infectivity P. grubs. occurrence was related time at each sampling site there evidence density-dependent response community density. apparently did not significantly affect native grubs, although tendency decline observed should be investigated.

متن کاملSoil sampling and isolation of entomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernematidae, Heterorhabditidae).
Entomopathogenic nematodes (a.k.a. EPN) represent a group of soil-inhabiting nematodes that parasitize a wide range of insects. These nematodes belong to two families: Steinernematidae and Heterorhabditidae. Until now, more than 70 species have been described in the Steinernematidae and there are about 20 species in the Heterorhabditidae. The nematodes have a mutualistic partnership with Entero...

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...

What are you focusing on at the moment? I am still carrying on with my research into the molecular mechanisms of memory, currently focusing on the link between CaMKII and AMPA receptors during memory consolidation. But two years ago, funded by the BBSRC, we embarked on an exciting new project, investigating the link between decision-making and learning in Lymnaea. This project uses much less mo...
متن کاملCONTROL OF INSECT PESTS WITH ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES I. Control of Weevils with Entomopathogenic Nematodes
Entomopathogenic nematodes in the genus Steinernema and Heterorhabditis have been successfully commercialized as biological control agents for a variety of curculionid species. Nematode-based products have been introduced for: 1) root weevils, Otiorhynchus spp. 2) billbugs, Sphenophorus spp. 3) the apopka weevil, Diaprepes abbreviatus, and 4) the citrus root weevil, Pachnaeus litus. Several oth...
